A new policy proposed on 2/26/2018 by the New Jersey Attorney General (AG) will make deadly force videos publicly available. The announcement came the day before the New Jersey Supreme Court heard arguments in Paff v. Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, a case concerning the application of the Open Public Records Act (OPRA) to police video recordings. Both the AG’s policy and the pending Court opinion seek to clarify circumstances and timing when police records should be publicly accessible, following last year’s NJ Supreme Court ruling in North Jersey Media Group v. Township of Lyndhurst.
