Hike in cost of court records may dissuade advocacy

NJ Municipal Court records that cost just over $6 last year have now been billed at $770, reports transparency advocate John Paff. The steep jump resulted from the Bellmawr Municipal Court’s failure to fill a records request that then got bumped up to the Superior Court level for handling. The new price tag presents quite a barrier to public records. Paff sent a letter to the Superior Court questioning the charge and asking why the municipal court could not handle the request.
